To-Do — the list that doesn't crush you

Add tasks, tag them by energy and time, pick a Big 3, break the scary ones down, and let Spin choose when you can't.

The To-Do widget is a list built around one assumption: the reason a task doesn't get done is rarely that you forgot it. It is that starting it costs more than you have right now. So every feature here is about lowering that cost.

Add a task

Type in the Add a task… field at the top of the widget and press Enter. That is the whole minimum — a title, nothing else required.

Click the task afterwards to open it and fill in whatever helps:

  • Due — a date and, if you want, a time.
  • Energy — Low (tired) / Medium (normal) / High (full focus).
  • Time — 2 min (quick) / Quick (under 30 min) / Long (deep work).
  • Project — group related tasks. Create projects from the Projects tab.
  • Steps — subtasks, added one line at a time.
  • Attachments — up to 5 files per task, 10 MB each.

Energy and time are the point

Tagging a task "Low energy, 2 minutes" is not bookkeeping. It is what lets you open the list on a bad afternoon and see, immediately, which three things you can actually do — instead of reading twenty titles that all feel equally impossible.

The same two tags feed the Cockpit's "one thing now" pick, so filling them in improves what the app suggests to you.

Big 3

Big 3 today is the top section: a maximum of three priorities for the day, which reset every morning.

Three is a hard cap and that is deliberate. A list of fifteen "priorities" is a list of zero priorities; three is a number you can hold in your head, and finishing them is a day that counted.

Press Add in the Big 3 header to promote a task into it.

Views and filters

  • All — everything active.
  • Inbox — tasks with no project yet.
  • Projects — grouped by project.
  • Someday — parked. Not a failure, a shelf: use Move to Someday on anything that is real but not now, and Make active when it comes back around.

When a task won't start

Three tools, in increasing order of desperation:

chunk-it — press it on a task and the AI splits it into a handful of steps small enough to begin. "Draft the Q3 presentation" becomes "open the doc and reread the outline", "write the first paragraph (5 min)", and so on. Press Re-chunk if the split isn't useful. See AI features.

Do this now — opens focus mode: one task on screen, everything else hidden, with Start Pomodoro and Skip.

Spin — when you cannot choose, this chooses for you. It is for the moments where the deciding is the whole blockage.

Stale tasks

A task nobody has touched for a while gets a quiet question: Still important? Two answers — Today (it moves into today) or Archive, no guilt.

That wording is the feature. A list that keeps a task from four months ago at the top, in red, teaches you to stop looking at the list. Letting things go without a penalty is what keeps it readable.

Add a task to the calendar

Open a task and press Add to calendar. Pick the day, the start time, how long it takes and which calendar; the event is created and the task is marked as scheduled.

It needs the task's Time tag first — the app will not guess how long your work takes.

Done and undone

Tick the checkbox to complete a task. The Cockpit counts today's completions, and the widget header shows "{n} done today" — the only counter in the app that goes up rather than down.
